This book definitely hit home for me. I am as crazy about dogs as Barby and can relate to how she must have felt when she first saw Bailey. The first chapter is a speculation of what and how Bailey must have been treated. It will tear your heart out. Barby, even going thru her own battle with cancer to survive, bonds with this poor dog she calls Bailey. 24hr days at first, given by herself and her staff at the sanctuary, to nurse him back to health as he's been starved and abused in so many ways. They rehab each other! Often, that's how things work and why dog is man's best friend. I can so relate as my current dog was dumped in a place in Dallas that is known for pet dumping and she had 4 pups to boot. The pups didn't survive but my Luna was rescued by one of the best groups ever. She came to me thru circumstances too long and complicated to explain in this review. So all the trials they went thru was something that touched my heart and soul. Sometimes we need to be reminded of the plights of human nature and how we find ways to heal along with our 4 legged friends.
